Gabriola

Elementary School

Our School

Welcome to Gabriola Elementary

Our mission: We will support all students in a place based learning environment to develop literacy, numeracy, and social skills.

Gabriola Elementary is a K-7 school located on a one of the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands and is part of the Nanaimo/Ladysmith School District. We currently have 156 students in 7 divisions.

Our present school was built in 1954 and has a long and rich history. Originally built as a one room school, it has gradually expanded through-out the years.

Gabriola Elementary is a “child-centered” school in which children, teachers, parents and the community share in the joy and responsibility of the life-long process of education. The students are involved in many environmental initiatives: gardening, recycling, and nature study. Many of our classes engage in place based and land based learning with nature focused activities and inquiry projects.
